Road trips are becoming increasingly popular among tourists for their freedom and flexibility. The open road offers incredible opportunities to explore at your own pace, stopping in at any destinations that take your fancy without being tied to a strict schedule of flights and public transport.

Anapliotis has compiled a list of incredible road trips that deserve a spot on every traveler’s summer bucket list – and one of the most gorgeous is the Great Ocean Road in Australia, a spectacular route that spans 243-kilometers from Torquay to Allansford in Victoria. The coastal drive will take you past the famous Twelve Apostles limestone stacks, through rainforests, and alongside stunning beaches.

The area around the incredible Twelve Apostles just underwent a multi-million dollar renovation to install a new viewing platform – Saddle Lookout. This spot allows roadtrippers to marvel at the stone stacks from a whole new perspective as they stretch into the distance.

From the Apostles, the trip takes you past Loch Ard Gorge, London Arch, and Cape Otway Lighthouse.

The route can be driven in a day at a pinch, but a three-day itinerary allows time to spot koalas, take beach walks, and enjoy coastal towns. Of course, if you want to take it even slower, there’s nothing stopping you.

The roads are well-maintained and services are plentiful.

While enjoyable year-round, December to February offers the warmest weather for beach stops.

Harry Anapliotis, CEO of Rental Center Crete said: “Road trips give you a sense of freedom that other types of travel simply can’t match.”

He added: “After decades in the car rental industry, I’ve seen how a good road trip can transform a regular holiday into an unforgettable adventure.

“For summer journeys, aim for late May to early June or September to avoid crowds while still enjoying pleasant weather.

“Look beyond tourist hotspots for accommodations and meals – often, the most authentic experiences are found just a few miles away at lower prices.”
